Positive Behavioral Solutions

Helping People Achieve Positive Outcomes

Ranciel Pichardo, MSW

Mental Health Specialist

Ranciel is an immigrant from the beautiful Dominican Republic who came to this country when he was 13 years old, in the 7th grade. Learning a new language, among other challenges and obstacles, motivated him not to give up and to become who I am today. Ranciel obtained his Master of Social Work degree in May of 2006 from Fordham University in New York City after working as a Case Manager for the families impacted by the tragedy of 911. Being a Social Worker with a concentration in Mental Health has allowed him to work with different populations, including families and children with trauma and behavioral challenges. Ranciel has also worked with the HIV and Homeless population, and people with a history of addiction. While direct service is one of his passions, working as a program manager was a great experience. He supervised a group of counselors in a program providing services for children in a few schools in New York City. Ranciel’s recent years in this field have been working as a Mental Health provider, mostly with children and some adults.

I believe that honesty and communication are two very important factors in the therapeutic relationship.

Meet Ranciel

What was your path to becoming a Mental Health Therapist?
One of my high school best friends inspired me to become a Therapist, as she helped me understand that I have a passion to help others and the skills to be a good listener, sympathetic, and non-judgmental, while trying to help others identify how to overcome their challenges and feel emotionally better. I understand the power of listening and helping those in need, as they learn to identify positive coping skills to help them overcome personal challenges.

What should someone know about working with you?
I enjoy sports, mainly football and baseball, love to travel, and experience different types of food from around the world. I have two beautiful children with my partner, and we enjoy going to the beach because we all love swimming. I love to travel, and I think Mexico has been the best place I have visited so far. I enjoy cooking; Korean food is my favorite. Finally, I believe that honesty and communication are two very important factors in the therapeutic relationship.
