Meet Quaisha
What was your path to becoming a mental health therapist?
I initially graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelors in Psychology and Criminology. While pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree, I worked in nursing homes, assisting elderly individuals who had challenges with Dementia, early and late-onset Alzheimer's disease, and traumatic brain injuries. I also gained experience working on a short-term rehabilitation unit that assisted all ages with regaining physical activities after a traumatic incident. I knew I wanted to continue working with individuals, focusing on the brain and how it functions. I started working with PBS as a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist in 2015, while I was in school for my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling. Over the years, I continued to develop skills to increase my awareness and abilities to help a plethora of clients. The helping profession has always been a part of my journey.
What should someone know about working with you?
I enjoy working to achieve a goal and/or see results. I understand to improve, you need to meet where you are at, and gradually, we work together to achieve the client's expected outcome. Also, I know support is a big part of the healing journey and I often refer to your support system to help along the way. I know small steps can make a big difference and I will always encourage growth. I acknowledge this is a life journey and it takes time and commitment.
