Helping People Achieve Positive Outcomes

Franciny Mena, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Mental Health Therapist

Franciny graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work. Franciny works with people of all ages but specializes in working with adolescents, families, and young adults. She began her career working in crisis intervention and residential treatment and has transitioned to outpatient therapy. Franciny's specific areas of expertise revolve around trauma-focused interventions, anxiety, depression, anger management, low self-esteem, and adjusting to life transitions. As a therapist, Franciny uses a client-centered approach, tailoring modalities like CBT, Mindfulness, and strength-based perspectives to meet her clients’ stated goals. Franciny allows space for clients to process difficult thoughts and feelings at their own pace, and hopes her clients can feel a little more empowered over their lives at the end of every session.

I hope my clients can feel a little more empowered over their lives at the end of every session.

Meet Franciny

What was your path to becoming a mental health therapist?
I initially majored in social work, just knowing I wanted to work in a field where I could be of help to others. I had no idea that social workers also work in the mental health field. After I completed my bachelor's degree, I became a case manager at a residential shelter for young adults. Then, I quickly realized that many of my check-ins with my clients were a little longer than usual. And I genuinely enjoyed talking to my clients in helping them process their thoughts or helping them realize that going back to yell at so&so probably wouldn't help their current circumstances. Soon enough, I decided to get my Master's Degree to become a therapist and make it a long-term role in my career.

What should someone know about working with you?
I value honesty and authenticity, even if your thoughts are not considered "good thinking" to most people. Therapy only goes as far as you, the client, and this truly is a judgment-free zone. I am Latina, and can personally understand that in some cultures, people believe mental health struggles "don't exist," and it can be considered taboo to seek therapy. Therefore, if you feel hesitant to give therapy a chance, know that you are not alone, and remember that one of the best steps towards change involves reaching for a helping hand.
