Chiquita is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who received her BS in Psychology from the University of Central Florida and MS in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. Chiquita has worked in the counseling field since 2012. Chiquita works with all ages especially teens and adults in areas such as anger management, anxiety, low self-esteem, school and peer issues, communication, ADHD, and more. Chiquita utilizes cognitive-behavioral and person-centered therapy to assist clients with better functioning in their everyday lives. Chiquita listens to her clients’ needs to understand their perspectives and presenting issues.

What was your path to becoming a mental health therapist?
I have had a passion for understanding what makes individuals do the things they do and what affects the way they think since I was in high school. I took my first psychology class in high school and decided I wanted to major in psychology in college. Once I graduated, I chose to get my graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling so I could help individuals better function in their everyday lives. 

What should someone know about working with you?
When working with me I like to explore the origins of problem areas, identify the current issues, assist the individual with problem-solving, and provide coping techniques such as changing your thoughts to change behaviors. I like to tell it like it is respectfully.
